Denise Watts serves as the Project L.I.F.T. Learning Community superintendent. During her career she has also served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal and principal. In 2005, Watts was named principal at Mint Hill Middle School, which became a nationally designated School to Watch in her first year there. She was named the North Carolina Middle Level Principal of the Year in 2008. In 2009, Watts was tapped for the CMS Strategic Staffing Initiative, which puts teams of top educators into struggling schools. She moved to Bishop Spaugh Community Academy, then the lowest-performing middle school in the state. After one year of her leadership, the school was one of the state’s most improved. Most recently, Watts was the Central Secondary Zone superintendent in CMS, where she provided leadership and oversight for 20 Title I secondary schools.
Chris Triolo serves Project L.I.F.T. as Executive Director for Teaching and Learning. During his career he has served as a science teacher, curriculum specialist, and principal. From teacher to principal, Triolo has maintained a strong focus on inquiry-based learning supported by data-driven practices. In 2009 Triolo was named principal at John Motley Morehead STEM Academy. In 2011-12 Morehead was recognized by the state of North Carolina as a Honor School of Excellence. It continues to be one of the district’s most sought after magnet programs focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. In 2011 Triolo moved to Fulton County Schools to lead Riverwood International Charter School. Riverwood serves the Sandy Springs community, a suburb of Atlanta, as the district’s only high school to offer the International Baccalaureate programme.
